Like many of us, plastic is part of my everyday life. From storage use to packaging to food use, I use plastic in some way or another daily. But did you know that some plastic can actually be harmful to you? Not only can plastic be harmful to us, but it can also be harmful to the environment. Yes, recycling does help and as the years have passed, advancements in technology are helping to make plastic safer. Often you can find plastic products that were made from recycled materials. There are also alternatives to using plastic and by doing so, you can start to live healthier without plastic. But how does one really start to eliminate plastic from their every day life? Is such a thing really possible? Of course it is. It might not always be affordable, at first, but your long term benefits just might outweigh your short term costs. That’s why I’m proud to partner with Life Without Plastic for our Holiday Gift Guide and also on our quest to going green and living a more eco-friendly & natural lifestyle.

Living a Healthier Life Without Plastic

Life Without Plastic is a Featured Gift in our Holiday Gift Guide!

Just Another Mom received complimentary product to facilitate this post. No monetary compensation was received and the opinion given is 100% honest and mine alone.

For our review, we were sent the 3 Piece Stainless Steel Dish Set

Highest quality, solid and classy stainless steel dish – includes a double wall stainless steel bowl and mug and a plate large enough for an adult and small enough for a child. Unbreakable and versatile.

After taking everything out of the package, however, what interested us the most was the fact sheet that arrived with it. Both Kyle and I were more than a little stunned to read about the side effects of too much plastic in our daily lives… even as we ate off of plastic plates or consumed food that was warmed in a plastic container. So, suffice it to say,  just that little bit of enlightening knowledge was enough to really motivate us for this review and to eventually making a long-term commitment to start eliminating plastic. Of course we also realize that this won’t be an overnight thing, but in the long run, it will definitely be worth it.

As you can see above, the set includes a plate, bowl, and tumbler.

Children deserve the best. This dish set is it. Made of the highest quality 18-8 food grade 304 stainless steel, the unbreakable set includes a good-sized plate with special flattened sides to make it easy for small hands to carry. There is also an insulated, double-walled bowl and tumbler to protect those same hands from hot foods and liquids. They keep warm things warm, and cool things cool!

Packaged in an eco-friendly kraft cardboard box, and makes a stunning gift that will last for generations. Great also for camping and beach dining!

Please note that each item has the happy turtle Life Without Plastic logo laser etched on the side.

While we didn’t give this to Sweet B, T, or J to review; we did make good use of the plate and bowl.

As you can see, that’s a very healthy portion of food in that plate. I like the raised sides because it helped me get my food into my mouth easier. I also liked how it really did keep the food warm.

I’ll also admit that, at first, I was going to do the review with the bowl until I realized I could probably get more food on my plate in one serving. Kyle graciously took the bowl to use for the review. And it still held a pretty good portion of our homemade Scalloped Potato Casserole (recipe coming soon!). Kyle voiced similar opinions in the food staying warm while the bowl didn’t stay too hot. Of course we weren’t going to eat our food right after it came out of the oven (though it was tempting), but we waited long enough for it to cool a little. Usually, after getting our food into a bowl or plate, it almost immediately starts to cool down.

With both the plate and bowl, we didn’t have that issue at all.

We were also really pleased with how easy they were to wash. That’s one reason we do end up using a lot of plastic bowls and plates, because they’re easier to wash. And they’re more kid friendly than using traditional tableware. I think, in the future, we’ll get a set for Squeaker to use. And we’ll also look into other alternatives that we can start using in our every day life. I’m extremely grateful to Life Without Plastic for partnering for us to do this review. It was definitely an eye opening and life changing experience. And another important step on our quest to going green and living a more eco-friendly & natural lifestyle.

I guess I never really thought about plastic like that. Do these by chance come with covers for the bowl or the plate? I do really like stainless steel and I like how this is made for adults and little ones.

The healthy portion of food looks great as there are different ingredients with different colors. If only we can also replace our dish sets, I would want those that are not made of plastic.

We’ve been trying to cut down on our plastic waste in our house too. We bought large water bottles to hold water instead of individual plastic water bottles.

My mom, brother, and I have been making a conscious effort to veer away and stop using plastic. It’s a practice that I have adapted even at work. BTW, this set is something that we’d love to have at home.

I’ve always loved stainless steel bowls for the reasons you gave, and also because they don’t hold flavors like other containers do. You can mix different foods, wash them out, and no lingering smell.

  16. Melissa Smith says

Ok, this just looks really cool! Not to mention they don’t look like they’d take up too much room in the cupboards, so they’d be perfect for parties.

I have made an effort to get away from plastic. Until you try to, you never realize how much plastic you use!!! I was shocked by my own usage.
